Monsoon Alert: Heavy Rainfall Forecast Across Multiple States Over Next 7 Days; Low-Pressure System and Cyclonic Circulations Active
The monsoon has once again become active across most parts of the country under the influence of a low-pressure area over the Gangetic plains and an associated cyclonic circulation. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the weather system is likely to move northwestwards towards Jharkhand and northern Odisha over the next 24 hours. Its influence is expected to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall to several parts of the country. Northwest India: Uttarakhand is likely to receive widespread rainfall from August 24 to 30, with heavy rain expected at isolated places on August 24 and again on August 29-30. East Uttar Pradesh is likely to experience widespread rainfall between August 25 and 27, while heavy rainfall is expected from August 24 to 26. West Uttar Pradesh may also receive heavy rainfall on August 25. Heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds has been forecast for Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi on August 24. Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir are likely to witness intermittent rainfall from August 24 to 30. Meanwhile, thunderstorms and lightning are expected over eastern Rajasthan between August 24 and 26. Central India: Rainfall activity is also expected to intensify over Madhya Pradesh. Both western and eastern parts of the state may receive heavy to very heavy rainfall from August 24 to 26. Chhattisgarh is likely to witness heavy rainfall from August 24 to 30, while Vidarbha may receive heavy rain between August 24 and 28. Isolated areas of Chhattisgarh could experience extremely heavy rainfall on August 24-25. East and Northeast India: An extremely heavy rainfall alert has been issued for Jharkhand and Odisha on August 24. Jharkhand is likely to continue receiving rainfall from August 25 to 28, while Odisha may see persistent rain from August 27 to 30. Bihar is expected to receive heavy rainfall from August 24 to 27. Sub-Himalayan West Bengal may experience heavy rain on August 24-25, accompanied by strong winds reaching 30-50 kmph. The northeastern states, including Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, are likely to experience persistent heavy rainfall from August 24 to 30. West and South India: Heavy rainfall is expected over Konkan, Goa and parts of central Maharashtra from August 24 to 26. Marathwada may receive thunderstorms and rain on August 24-25. Rainfall activity will also remain strong across southern India. Kerala is under an extremely heavy rainfall alert for August 24. Coastal Karnataka, South Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are likely to experience heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds on August 24-25. Authorities have advised residents in affected areas to closely monitor weather updates and follow safety advisories.
