Monsoon Update: Rain, Heavy Showers, Thunderstorms Likely Across Several States from July 13 to 18

The southwest monsoon remains active over most parts of the country. Between July 12 and 18, several states across Central, Eastern and Southern India are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall, while isolated places may witness heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds. Central India: Chhattisgarh, East Madhya Pradesh, West Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha are likely to receive rainfall at isolated places during July 12�18. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are expected over Chhattisgarh and East Madhya Pradesh from July 12 to 16, and over Vidarbha on July 12 and 16. Heavy rainfall is also likely at isolated locations over Chhattisgarh on July 14 and 15. Eastern India: The Andaman & Nicobar Islands are expected to witness widespread rainfall from July 12 to 16. Rainfall activity is also likely over Gangetic West Bengal and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim during July 12�18, Jharkhand and Odisha during July 13�18, and Bihar during July 13�14. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar and Odisha on different days during the forecast period. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30�50 km/h are also expected over the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Jharkhand, Odisha, Bihar and parts of West Bengal. Southern India: Rainfall is likely at isolated places over Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, North Interior Karnataka and South Interior Karnataka during July 12�18. Kerala & Mahe are expected to receive rainfall from July 12�17, while Coastal Karnataka may witness rainfall during July 13�15. Isolated rainfall is also likely over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema and Lakshadweep on selected days. Widespread rainfall is expected over Kerala & Mahe and Lakshadweep on July 18, while Coastal Karnataka is likely to witness widespread rainfall on July 12 and July 16�18. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 40�60 km/h are likely over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala, Karnataka and adjoining regions.
