Mustard Prices Hold Steady Amid Limited Demand from Oil Mills; Arrivals Increase
Mustard prices in the domestic market remained unchanged on Monday as demand from oil mills stayed subdued. In Jaipur, the rate of condition-grade mustard was quoted at ₹8,050 per quintal, maintaining its previous level. Meanwhile, daily arrivals of mustard increased across major producing markets. Despite the overall stable trend, several branded oil mills raised their procurement prices by ₹25 to ₹50 per quintal during the evening trading session. Global edible oil markets presented a mixed picture. Trading in Malaysian palm oil futures remained closed due to a holiday, while soybean oil futures in Chicago moved higher. According to market participants, the likelihood of a sharp rise in international edible oil prices remains limited at present. Lower export shipments from Malaysia are expected to contribute to higher inventory levels, which could weigh on prices. Within the domestic market, mustard oil prices ranged from steady to firm. Traders reported an increase in mustard arrivals across producing states. Farmers are still holding substantial stocks, and as a result, daily arrivals are expected to remain consistent in the near term. Industry sources believe domestic demand for edible oils will continue to stay healthy, while fluctuations in mustard oil prices in the spot market will largely depend on the movement of imported edible oil prices. On the Chicago Board of Trade, soybean oil prices for the July futures contract advanced by 0.33 percent. Among key domestic markets, Kolkata witnessed an increase in raw mustard oil (kachchi ghani) prices, which rose to ₹1,630 per 10 kg. In contrast, prices weakened in Bharatpur, where raw mustard oil was quoted at ₹1,580 per 10 kg, and in Tonk, where it eased to ₹1,573 per 10 kg. Mustard cake prices also showed a softer trend. In Charkhi Dadri, rates declined to ₹3,250 per quintal, while in Bharatpur they slipped to ₹3,350 per quintal. Prices in Kota remained unchanged at ₹3,250 per quintal. Daily mustard arrivals in producing markets climbed to 7 lakh bags on Monday, compared with 6.50 lakh bags recorded on the previous trading day.
