Rain and Thunderstorm Likely in Delhi-NCR Due to Active Western Disturbance; Temperatures to Remain Below Normal

Residents of Delhi-NCR have finally received relief from the intense heat experienced last week. Recent spells of rain, thunderstorms, and dust storms have led to a significant drop in temperatures. Over the past three days, the maximum temperature has remained between 36C and 37C, around 45C below normal. The Safdarjung weather station recorded a maximum temperature of 35.8C, the lowest daytime temperature since May 7. Night temperatures have also stayed 34C below normal, providing relief from warm and uncomfortable nights. Several active weather systems are responsible for this change in weather conditions. A cyclonic circulation is currently present over central Pakistan and adjoining parts of south Punjab and north Rajasthan. In addition, a trough line extends from this system toward southwest Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. Furthermore, a fresh Western Disturbance is expected to reach the Himalayan region by late June 3, making weather conditions more active across northern India. According to meteorologists, Delhi and adjoining areas may experience light and scattered rain accompanied by thunderstorms on June 2 and 3. However, rainfall activity is expected to remain localized and short-lived during this period. Despite this, temperatures are likely to stay below normal. Weather activity is expected to increase noticeably between June 4 and June 6. During this period, several parts of Delhi-NCR may witness rain, thunderstorms, dust storms, and strong gusty winds. Some areas could experience more intense weather conditions. The impact of these systems may continue until June 7, providing continued relief from the heat. Weather conditions are expected to improve gradually from June 8 onward. Skies will likely become clearer, and temperatures may begin to rise slowly. However, the encouraging news is that there is currently no indication of heatwave conditions affecting Delhi and surrounding areas during the first ten days of June. Overall, the coming week is expected to remain relatively pleasant and comfortable across Delhi-NCR.
