Gujarat has received relief from extreme heat this season, and according to weather experts, the chances of a dangerous heatwave till the end of May remain low.

There are currently no signs of severe heatwave conditions developing in Gujarat by the end of May. While bordering areas of Rajasthan have witnessed record-breaking temperatures, Gujarat has remained comparatively comfortable. Barmer recorded temperatures above 48C, while Phalodi saw the mercury hovering close to 47C on several occasions. In contrast, most parts of Gujarat did not reach the 45C heatwave threshold. Only Surendranagar recorded temperatures slightly above 45C on May 10 and 11, 2026. Typically, maximum temperatures in the interior parts of Gujarat remain between 41C and 42C during May. According to meteorological standards, a heatwave is declared only when temperatures cross 45C, which has not happened in most locations this season. Weather experts explain that intense heat in Gujarat usually increases when dry weather persists for a long period and northwesterly winds bring hot air from Pakistan into the state. At present, temperatures in Jacobabad, Pakistan, have touched 49C, while several parts of Rajasthan are also experiencing severe heat. However, the current wind pattern is preventing this extreme heat from directly affecting Gujarat. Over the next two days, no major rise in temperatures is expected across most parts of the country. Between May 29 and 31, temperatures may even drop slightly in Gujarat and several other states. A change in wind patterns is expected from the beginning of June, which could further reduce the impact of heat. At the same time, signs of unusual pre-monsoon activity are emerging in Gujarat during the first week of June 2026. Several areas may witness thunderstorms and light rainfall. Current weather indicators suggest that the possibility of severe heatwave conditions in Gujarat during the remaining pre-monsoon season remains quite low.
